A great secretary is central to the smooth running of any business as they ensure all day to day activities take place in an efficient manner.

Becoming a secretary does not require any qualifications, employers are more interested in good computer skills and telephone skills.

However, many employers may prefer a recognised qualification which can be taken from a wide range of colleges and awarding bodies such as:

Relevant qualifications include:

  • NVQ Awards, Certificates and Diplomas in Business Administration at levels 1-4

  • OCR Administration (Business Professional) Certificates and Diplomas at levels 1-4.

Most courses are designed to give you plenty of practical experience and knowledge of the role. They provide you with everything you need to know to work in a highly demanding and challenging office.

The course will teach you the latest software to plan schedules, take minutes, develop great practical business skills and learn how an organisation works at a senior level and help you gain an advantage when applying for your ideal job role.

Courses can range from full time to a few days, many will often be carried out in ones own time.
