Fish farmers will work in the breeding and rearing of fish for food in order to increase production and practice sustainable fishing.
Fish farms are made up of tanks or enclosures in rivers and lakes, or sea-cages when at sea.
Fish are bred and reared in these densely populated enclosures by skilled farmers, who work to increase cultivation but also to protect the stock from harm.

Fish farms vary in size, usually specialising in farming a particular type of fish, either inland or in coastal areas.
According to DEFRA, there are over 1000 fish and shellfish farming businesses in the UK operating on around 1500 different sites.
The majority of fish farms are situated in Scotland, or in the North East of England. Fish farms can be very large, especially when off the coast, and depending on the type of fish farmed.
Many fish farms only employ a few highly-skilled staff, usually leaving the managers to do many of the main tasks, as well as supervising fish farm workers.
Fish farms usually in isolated areas, and involve a lot of hands-on practical work outside in all conditions.
Coastal fish farms may be situated some distance from the shore, so extensive travel to and from work is likely.
Whilst fish farms are generally different from fisheries where the fishing of wild fish is mainly for sport, some fish farms may double up providing facilities for angling.
