PRISONS

HM Prison Service offers a variety of jobs working in prisons across the UK, to ensure that prisoners are treated decently and receive the necessary care needed.

There are sometimes circumstances whereby prisoners cannot access healthcare services on the outside. In these cases, doctors and nurses are employed to ensure that medical attention can be paid to those inside Her Majesty’s Prisons Service.

Doctors will work in a challenging and confined environment where a huge range of physical and mental problems will be present. Work in the healthcare departments of prisons can be demanding, but working as a prison nurse or psychiatrist can be rewarding for those who enjoy a challenge.

The majority of jobs are within primary care, but prison healthcare workers can have a significant impact on the lives of male and female prisoners. Prisons will therefore require doctors and nurses with a huge range of skills: medical and communicative.
