Possibly the single largest employer within the entire industry, IT companies do all manner of IT related jobs. The largest of these companies are the major IT and software developers, including Microsoft and IBM.

IT companies will design and sell programmes, software and hardware to both consumers and businesses. As well as being at the forefront of technological innovation, IT companies also employ their own teams to manage their internal systems. This means that pretty much every type of job in IT and software development, would be available within these companies.

Normally, IT companies will require employees to have a degree or qualification proving their technological knowledge and skill. However, whilst this is almost always the case in the bigger companies, smaller companies may be willing to take people with good IT knowledge and no degree, in order to train them up on the job.

Once having worked for an IT company, there are opportunities to move on to work for other companies who require IT support or development.
