Traditional forms of communications have been reshaped and redefined by the Internet. Newspapers, books and other forms of printed media have adapted to website technology which has accelerated the way in which information is delivered to the public.

News is now sent through blogging, social networking, internet forums and instant messaging, not to mention exclusively online news sites. The internet has created a world where everyone and every piece of information is accessible immediately. It therefore offers an ideal platform for journalists and would-be journalists to work on, as it reaches such large audiences in a very short amount of time.

Many established print and broadcast news corporations will diffuse news stories online, for which they need journalists with different skills to research, write, edit and design.
