To have a career as a barrister or solicitor, a law degree is required. Universities will require professionals to train all law students to ensure that they have acquired the skills necessary to complete their degree, and to be accepted on training schemes or pupillages.

Most often, university tutors will have already trained and worked some years in the specific profession, as it is important that universities hire experienced professionals. Lecturers who have specialised in law can be hired by universities and schools to teach students the different aspects of the industry.

Usually it is required for lecturers to have a PhD in order to teach at university, but barristers or solicitors who have this qualification could have good employment opportunities at universities.
