COMMERCIAL FIRMS

Commercial firms make up, by some distance, the largest employer in the entire property industry. These firms can be international or based solely in the UK, and can have a variety of specialities. Property is big business and there has been a succession of mergers in recent years, meaning that commercial firms are getting bigger.

Commercial property companies can end up covering all aspects of the building and construction industry, whilst also working in estate agency.

Property companies can specialise in commercial or residential sectors, and within those sectors lie various job roles. Commercial firms deal largely with developing properties, whether it is building them from scratch or taking an old building and rejuvenating it. This means that property companies employ a wide range of skilled workers, ranging from labourers to engineers, facilities managers to surveyors. They then go on to market properties and dabble in estate agency.

They are not only most likely to employ graduates and junior surveyors, but have divisions within them for all aspects relating to property and employ a wide spectrum of professionals. These employees include planners, facilities managers, finance and investment departments, developers, investment surveyors and leasing surveyors.
