VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Charities which hire large numbers of volunteers will also employ coordinators to organise the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and management of volunteers. In smaller charities, the role might be filled by another member of staff, such as a human resources manager or an administrator.

In large organisations there will usually be a volunteer coordinator and various volunteer training supervisors, whereas in smaller charities, the same role will be filled by one person.

They will write and distribute training manuals, advise new recruits on charity protocol and make sure that standards of health and safety and ethical practice are adhered to.

They ensure that all volunteers have the necessary Criminal Records Bureau check clearance, if applicable.

Depending on the size of the organisation, the voluntary coordinator or training supervisor may be required to attend meetings with external bodies, such as local councils, and write reports before and after projects are completed.
