Of all the different roles found in architecture, architectural technologists are the specialists in the technical side of design. They are concerned with how buildings will actually function as opposed to the aesthetic qualities they possess.

Whilst senior architects and clients may come up with a concept and be willing to put it into place, architectural technologists must turn a concept into a workable and practical design that can be implemented.

Although there is clear overlap with an architect, the technologist will be more focused on engineering and science opposed to design. They must ensure the buildings are safe and usable.

As the most critical role in ensuring the safety of a building, it takes time to understand all that is needed, and the extreme care that needs to be taken in making sure a building is safe.
