The hotel restaurant or bar manager, or maître d'hotel, is in charge of the restaurant or bar within a hotel. The manager must ensure that the restaurant or bar is representing the hotel and staff in the best possible light as, for many, restaurants form one of the the central parts. The restaurant should deliver a quality service to clients, guests and those that run the hotel.
Managers must be in charge of the restaurant or bar from the moment service commences early in the day to when it finishes late at night. This can be a stressful job dealing with the wishes of each individual guest and managers are likely to spend a lot of time on their feet, moving around.
A manager needs to be quick thinking, personable and able to deal with complaints calmly and efficiently. They represent the link between the restaurant, the staff, the general manager and the senior management.
