Security analysts are responsible for maintaining high levels of security within a business setting and protecting IT networks. In almost all businesses this role will be performed by in-house IT technicians or software engineers. It is very rare for a company to employ security analysts solely for security purposes, except in extreme cases or in businesses that work with information which is potentially sensitive by nature.

The most important quality is to not only understand computer systems but to be aware of the potential threats and measures that can be taken to deter hackers or viruses.

Security analysts also ensure that confidentiality of the company and the employees within it is protected. The process involves constant monitoring of the current system and advising on upgrades or changes when deemed appropriate.
