Telecommunications managers and officers are responsible for overseeing, developing, installing and managing telecommunications networks. In the world of IT, telecommunications are almost important as the computers themselves. Since the computer and mobile booms, it seems the two technologies are becoming more and more closely related in terms of the functions they perform. Telecommunications managers ensure that phones are compatible with computers and deal with all other matters that link the two, from email and address books, remote calling and conference calling using computers.

Managers will often lead teams of telecommunications officers, network specialists and other members of IT departments who develop new systems, implement the changes and run the equipment.

As with computers and their constant improvement and modernising, managers must stay at the cutting edge of understanding impending changes in the marketplace and the world of mobile communication. As a result, many managers will have research teams at their disposal.
