The main purpose of a Development Control (DC) Planner is to process planning applications and deal with general planning enquires. They will provide professional advice to the County Council and other applicants on specific planning matters.

Daily duties will involve liaising with and advising a range of applicants on the technical and environmental requirements necessary for planning applications. They will also involve dealing with issues concerning the UK regulations for residential, commercial, industrial, green belt and open space planning.

During the evaluation and assessment of planning applications a development controller must exercise a fair and balanced professional judgement.

Once these applications have been considered it is their role to prepare reports and make recommendations to the Planning and Regulation Committee suggesting the next appropriate steps. A DC Planner will be required to maintain personal and professional development so as to meet the changing demands of the job.
