A planning assistant works in the field of current and advanced planning for individual developers and public development. Their main role is to help with the development and administration of policy in land use and community development planning programmes.
They are extremely knowledgeable in reading sites and building plans as projects can range from routine to highly complex.
The duties within this job include a specific amount of research, analysis and interpretation of social, economic and population status.
They will begin by reviewing and processing initial land use applications and site plans for compliance and create staff reports for City Councils, Development Commissions and Planning Commissions. Technical and field research will also be carried out so to prepare statistical reports and recommendations.
All those working in planning need to apply and adhere to national and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.
