A Product Development Engineer is crucial to the design process; their role is to step in once the prototype has been developed and offer their opinion and advice on how to make the product more aesthetically pleasing, easier to use and more cost effective. Their primary concern is to fulfil a client’s or companies wishes and fulfilling their vision for their product.

Any technical problems that emerge during the trial and error period will be addressed by the product development engineer. During this time they will test its usability by using it as a consumer would. They will be responsible for maintaining the budget and identifying any hidden costs or areas where money can be saved. Once the product has been given the go-ahead, it is the responsibility of the product developer to create a brand and design the marketing and packaging graphics.
