A fund administrator is responsible for running and supporting the activities associated with a collective investment scheme. The scheme can be a traditional mutual fund, a hedge fund, pension fund, unit trust or something in between.

Managers of funds often choose to outsource some or all of these activities to external specialist companies; these companies are often known as fund administrators. Daily duties can include:

  • Fund establishment
  • Fund management
  • Invoicing
  • Liaising with solicitors, managers, investors etc.

A fund manager’s duties will primarily involve taking charge of the financial books and records and calculating the income and expenses. Knowledge of legal structures and real estate regulations can be useful in this area.
