A medical aesthetician is a ‘non-medical practitioner who specialises in education, prevention and treatment of skin and other related ailments.’ Involved in their remit are facials, therapy, vela smooth, chemical peels, laser treatment and hair removal.

There is a very strict way to deal with each individual: Consultation and analysis; devising and developing most suitable treatment plans; assisting nurses, surgeons and doctors in communication and treatment with the client; consultation after treatment; providing further treatments and products to assist with aftercare throughout healing process.

Medical aestheticians work within cosmetic surgery clinics, private hospitals and some specialist salons/spas.

The world of aesthetic treatments is so vast that most will study the subject generally before specialising. Most will shadow senior practitioners before working on their own.
