Receptionists are usually newly qualified beauty therapists or hairdressers looking to progress their career. This is generally seen as the best way to do this as it gives the individual broad and practical experience from the ground level and helps them understand the entire industry.

Receptionists are very busy and will be expected to work 6 days a week in sometimes very long shifts. Their duties include being proactive on the telephone by taking bookings and selling products, face to face interaction with clients when they enter the salon or spa, answering any queries, taking payments and cashing up, keeping and maintaining client records, tidying the salon or spa when necessary, understanding any health and safety or security issues that affect the premises, checking stock and ordering more where appropriate and generally promoting the salon and its associated products.
