A new scheme has been put into action today where Olympic-style ambassadors will be placed in schools across London. The pink and purple-jacketed Team London volunteers will encourage pupils to take up activities like planting trees and visiting the elderly.
A pilot scheme will begin in six schools this term and will be offered to all schools in London by 2016.
Volunteers will also be at tourist attractions and transport hubs this summer including the Tower of London, Covent Garden and Gatwick Airport.
They will also attend major sporting and cultural events such as the Boat Race and Hyde Park concerts.
Mayor Boris Johnson, launching the £3 million scheme, said: “I hope this initiative will inspire young Londoners to get out and support their local communities.”
