The Merchant Hotel in Belfast has announced plans to create 42 new jobs. The expansion has been made possible due to the Beannchor group's investment in two new ventures in the city's Cathedral Quarter.

The National Grande Cafe Bar will open in early September and will be situated in the former National Bank building on the High Street. An "artisan" bakery and patisserie will also open in the next door building.

The 42 new jobs will be for full-time and part-time positions. A third new business is expected to open in the autumn which is expected to create a further 50 additional jobs.

Bill Wolsey, managing director of the Beannchor Group said: "The hospitality industry is crucial to Northern Ireland's economy and will be one of the key drivers for sustainable economic growth here in the coming years."

He continued on to say that ongoing investment in the hospitality industry was crucial to Northern Ireland's economy.
